2013: In October we finished building our first chicken coop in Takaye; this is to house 250 meat birds as opposed to laying birds. Once started, the stock will turn over approximately every 6 to 8 weeks, and the profit made from this project will be used to help feed widows and orphan children in the district of Takaye, Kenya. Our Chicken project – sponsor a bird to feed widows & orphans.
We have been offered assistance to buy the right breeds of bird for this area and also assistance to get the mature birds to market. You can help us by sponsoring a bird; the cost of buying and feeding a chick until ready for sale at market is £2.50. Will you help us to buy stock to kickstart this project? It will help feed those who are vulnerable and unable to feed themselves. Visit our donate page and help us to establish this work. Thank you.
Total cost per chick prior to market sale = £2.50
Farming Chickens to Help Feed the Widows and Orphans in Takaye, Kenya: Myself with Grace (centre) and Pastor Rachel (right) in Takaye.
Last year Pastor Rachel said she would like to help feed some of the poorest people in her community, showing the love of Jesus Christ through the church to those most in need. There are widows and orphan children who are penniless in Takaye; these people don't eat every day.
We started a chicken project to help feed some of those most in need; we are getting local expert advice on how to look after and breed chickens successfully in this area.
To start the project, we assisted by building the chicken house, sorting the right kind of feed and medication, and buying in the birds. The project was handed over to Takaye Church in 2012.
